Rose Geranium is the rosier smelling version of Geranium essential oil. It used to always have the wordroseumat the end of its Latin name to distinguish one from the other but now the Latin names on Geranium essential oils is nearly always the same for both -pelargonium graveolens. A Geranium essential oil that is not a Rose Geranium has a much more ‘green’ fragrance - a little sharper - but it does share the same properties. Having said that, the more floral fragrance of the Rose Geranium variety is to my mind more fitting to it’s myriad feminine properties.
INTERESTING FACT
Rose Geranium oil can also be used as a natural insect repellant.
Geraniums were originally planted on the periphery of Mediterranean gardens to ward off insects. Now they are a staple for their colour and robustness as they can survive with very little water.
