A Skincare Serum is a moisturiser that can be; used either alone as your one and only moisturiser combined with your cream or lotion moisturiser to give it an extra ‘boost’ or as an occasional extra to improve the texture of your skin.
Angelico Serums are so intricately blended to suit any skin type or condition that you really don't need anything else to moisturise and condition your skin but that is your choice.
What is the difference between a Face Oil and a Face Serum? It really depends on who you are asking. As Angelico Serums are made from such precious oils and are so active we felt that serum was a more fitting title as it conjures up a feeling of indulgence and effectiveness whereas a simple face oil might be nothing more than a light vegetable or even mineral oil which only moisturises the face a little.
This is not to down-play any of the many lovely Face Oils on the market - some are made from fabulous ingredients, but we decided that Serum described our oils best and sounded more reassuring!
As there is no real clear definition we simply chose Serum. Some people get very sniffy if a serum does not contain something other than plant oils. Some think a serum should contain water, giving it a more gel like consistency but this necessitates the inclusion of other less natural ingredients in order to make the oils disperse in the water.
Others like their serums to have a tightening effect. Ours work according to your skin type and condition using expertly blended oils to balance your skins moisture. Nothing else is needed to make a really effective serum. On researching Serum the inevitable comparison between creams and serums or face oils comes up.
The biggest difference between a serum and a cream or lotion is what the formulation doesn't include. Serums leave out occlusive, or airtight, moisturising ingredients such as petrolatum or mineral oil that keep water from evaporating. Also, Serums and Face Oils have become more and more popular as people have become more informed and realise that there is really nothing that works better. Having switched to serum as your daily moisturiser we are certain that not only will you love the effect it has on your skin but that after just a week or two, you will never want to use a cream on your face and neck again.
A big claim? Well why would you use anything other than the really good ingredients on your skin? It’s like saying I must have some flour in my soup - it won’t make it taste any better, it will simply make it thicker but it won't add to its nutritional content.
Seasons & Serums
Your skin changes with the seasons. It can become dry and distressed in winter months, oily in humid conditions or sensitive when subject to stress. Sometimes it may feel ‘mature’ simply because you have neglected yourself or ’lived it up’ a little too much! Sometimes your skin won’t know quite what it is. A little dry in some areas and oily in others resulting in what we know as combination skin.
Listen to your skin. Give it what it craves. Don’t be afraid to switch serums from time to time. Like a plant that hasn’t been watered for a long time, your skin will soak up serum to begin with but need less over time until you will see that it is happy and glowing with just a few drops of serum each morning and night.
