Of all plant oils, borage oil contains one of the highest levels of the fatty acid - gamma-linolenic acid known as GLA. This makes borage oil a strong anti-inflammatory. GLA is one type of omega-6 “essential” fatty acid that the body cannot make on its own, so we must get it from outside sources such as borage oil.
One of the most well-researched uses for borage oil is treating inflammatory skin disorders such as eczema. GLA has been shown to correct deficiencies in skin lipids (oils). When the skin can’t produce enough protective oils of its own the result is increased inflammation and skin flare-ups. Borage oil can help to address these sort of problems.
